Looks

Looks can be subjective. But one thing is for sure – both the SUVs are a delight to look at. Under the skin, both cars are identical and use the same platform. Despite this, the SUVs have contrasting looks. The Kodiaq sports a more sophisticated look, despite its striking headlights and taillights, and sharp cuts and creases across its body. On the other hand, the Tayron looks sportier. With the Tayron, the muscular front grille, blackened elements, and an illuminated red VW badge aim to give a sportier look.

Interestingly, the Tayron has slightly greater dimensions than the Kodiaq. The newly launched SUV is 34mm longer and 2mm wider than its Czech sibling. This difference is more pronounced on the inside, with the Tayron offering a 345-litre boot (all rows up), compared to the Kodiaq’s 281-litre boot.

Skoda Kodiaq Vs VW Tayron – Interior
There are quite a few differences inside the cabin. The Kodiaq boasts a more practical cabin with physical climate control dials, while the Tayron takes a minimalist approach, with the infotainment screen controlling all functions. With the Kodiaq, the dual-tone interiors give the cabin a plush feel. Whilst with the Tayron, Volkswagen has given it an all-black cabin for a sportier feel.

With the Kodiaq, you get equipment like –
- 12.9-inch infotainment screen
- 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
- Panoramic Sunroof
- Powered front seats with ventilation and massaging functions
- 360-degree camera
- Wireless charging
- 18-inch alloys

You get all the abovementioned features on the Tayron as well, with some additions like –
- Level-2 ADAS
- A larger 15-inch infotainment display
- Larger 19-inch alloys
- Matrix LED headlights

Skoda Kodiaq Vs VW Tayron – Powertrain
This is where the differences disappear. Both SUVs get the same 2.0-litre TSI engine (202 bhp & 320 Nm), mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox and an AWD drivetrain. The Kodiaq is 39 kg lighter (kerb weight) than the Tayron, making it slightly livelier to drive.
Skoda Kodiaq Vs VW Tayron – Verdict

We have compared the top-spec Kodiaq (L&K) to the sole trim of the Tayron, R-Line. The Skoda Kodiaq costs Rs 55.49 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), while the VW Tayron costs Rs 56.16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
