Once sold as the cheapest car in the country, the Tata Nano became one of the most unique builds. In 2014, at the Autocar Performance Show, JA Motorsports showcased a Tata Nano. This Nano was termed the “Super Nano”. Super Nano is nothing like any ordinary Nano in the market. Here are the reasons that made this Nano ‘Super’.

1. Exterior:
Super Nano only features the body shell and shape of the stock Nano. A custom wide-body is installed, with blacked-out headlamps and tail lamps. To match the sporty design, the Super Nano is painted bright blue. These characteristics gave the Nano an aggressive, sporty look. Super Nano rides on the 13-inch performance alloy wheel set, wrapped with Slick tyres, providing sufficient grip around the track.

2. Interior:
Except for the Dashboard, all the stock interiors were removed. To increase the overall stability and safety, the body was stiffened, and a bolt-on roll cage was installed. Two racing seats, a flat-bottom race-spec steering wheel, a digital racing instrument panel, and carbon inserts were added to the interiors. The rear seat space was utilised to fit the larger engine powering the Super Nano.

3. Powertrain:
Engineers at JA Motorsports managed to replace the stock 624cc two-cylinder engine with a 1300cc four-cylinder engine. And surprisingly, this engine belongs to the Suzuki Hayabusa. Yes, JA Motorsports fit a superbike into the Nano. With this new engine, Super Nano produces 230 bhp and 190 Nm of torque; these power figures are well above the Mahindra XUV 700 and close to the Skoda Octavia VRS. With the very low power-to-weight ratio, Super Nano would have been faster than the Mahindra XUV 700 and Skoda Octavia VRS. During test runs, Super Nano touched 160 km/h, but JA Motorsport claims it can go faster, up to approximately 190 km/h. To handle the performance, a six-speed sequential gearbox, along with upgraded suspension and brakes, was installed.
Back in the day, you could convert your own Tata Nano into a Super Nano for 25 lakh, and JA Motorsports did this. Super Nano is a track-specific vehicle and cannot be used as a daily city vehicle. Super Nano not only looks and drives sporty, but also sounds like a sports car.
